Counselling service

A confidential service offering free counselling, advice and wellbeing support to young people aged 8-25 years in the Northeast Northants area. (Funding dependant)

Counselling can facilitate, support and empower you to make positive changes in a safe, friendly and non-judgemental environment.

How we can help you

Sometimes there are issues which are just too difficult or too personal to discuss with friends and family or are too complicated to resolve ourselves.
This is when it can be helpful to seek confidential counselling from someone who is fully qualified and trained to listen and support you through difficulties you may wish to explore.
We aim to help you understand your feelings, thoughts and behaviour enabling you to be better equipped to cope with the complexities of life.
Our trained counsellors will support you as you begin to make decisions about the things you can change and come to terms with anything that is unchangeable.

We can help you with a wide range of things including:
• Abuse
• Addiction
• Anger Management
• Anxiety
• Bereavement
• Bullying
• Depression
• Eating Disorders
• Emotional Wellbeing
• Family and Relationship Problems
• Gender Identity
• Loneliness
• Pregnancy
• Sexuality
• Self-Esteem
• Self-Harm
• Stress
• Suicidal Thoughts and Feelings

Who can be referred?

Anyone aged between 8-25 (subject to funding) and living within the Oundle,Thrapston and surrounding areas. Young people can self-refer or you can make a referral for them, but the young person must always have consented to the referral.

How do I refer?

Our ONLINE referral form is available for 11-25 year olds or email info@chatyouthcounselling.org.uk to request a referral form.

For aged 8-10 years old, referrals to counselling can be done by visiting www.servicesix.co.uk (link to their referral page) and any Oundle, Thrapston and surrounding areas based referrals will be redirected to us here at CHAT Youth Counselling.

What happens next?

After the form has been received, you will normally be contacted within a few weeks and offered a 1:1 assessment appointment with a qualified counsellor to discuss your needs. Please note, for us to be able to book an assessment session for counselling, we will need to have your Emergency Contact details and the name of your GP surgery.

Your name will then be added to our waiting list and CHAT Youth Counselling will contact you when a counselling appointment is available.

How do sessions work?

Our Person-Centred counselling sessions are free, confidential and non-judgemental. Our initial offer is 6 – 8 sessions and we can offer up to 12 sessions if required, with each session lasting for 50 minutes with the same counsellor, at the same time each week. You can choose if you want the sessions to be face-to-face or remotely by video call or phone call. We will discuss further options with you if you need more support. CHAT Youth Counselling face to face appointments can be at your school or at our CHAT Office based in Oundle. Appointments can be offered in Thrapston (subject to availability.)
